Balwearie Lightning
Balwearie Lightning (formerly Bees) is the ideal team for newcomers to floorball to learn the sport without having too much pressure placed on their shoulders.
This season Lightning have many new players who are playing their first ever games of floorball. Craig, Danny, Shaun, Steve and Gary have played for the first time, Lorna and Richard have played for the first time in a few years, Jim has returned from a floorball break of many years to play as an outfield player instead of as a goalkeeper. Niall is now 15 and old enough to play floorball in competitive league play. Only Mark, Alan, Colin, Gordon and Kevin remain from the Bees (National Plate Winners 2006), whilst Bob adds his experience to the squad in player coaching capacity.
Results have not been great but the team has bonded well and apart from a few heavy defeats Lightning have made it difficult for their more experienced opponents. In time the club will benefit from Lightning as players gain in confidence and experience and challenge for a place in Thunder. Others may then move from Thunder to add their experience to the next generation of floorballers in Lightning. Pete and Colin have a handful of 12/13-year-old girl’s who will be pushing for a spot in Lightning in 3 year’s time. Balwearie dare to be different and do our bit to develop the sport in Scotland.
